Yemeni coffee has been grown and processed the same way for over 500 years. The semi-arid climate and high altitude produces unique, nuanced coffees with dried fruit flavors. In modern times, much greater care is exercised when selecting cherries and drying fruit.
Coffee in Yemen is grown on steep terraces, and often, a single lot will be comprised of beans from multiple terraces owned by various farmers. But this coffee is from a single farmer, Mohammed Alameal, and comes from a single terrace. It immediately stood out from others we tasted due to its clarity and intense plum, clove, honey, and cinnamon notes.
