A classic Guji— sweet, balanced fruit notes that sing within the cup

Guduba, Ethiopia

Established in 2012, the Guduba Wet Mill is located in the Benti Nenka Village of the Hambela Wamena district of the West Guji Zone. There are 589 small holders contributing to Guduba who each own 1-2 hectares of land. We have selected this coffee for its floral bouquet and sweet clarity of flavor. The Guduba wet mill is owned and run by Eyasu Worasa, a native of Dilla who has accrued over a decade in the coffee wet mill industry.

You may notice that we label this variety of coffee “local landraces” instead of other traditional varieties like Bourbon or Caturra. Ethiopia is hailed as the birthplace of coffee, and because the coffee that arrives at any particular wet mill could come from a number of different producers (589 small holders at Guduba alone), multiple varieties come together to form the eventual cup. DNA testing of its coffee has confirmed Ethiopia to have over 60 distinct varieties, creating the most coffee biodiversity out of any other region in the world.

Despite the difficulties that come with variety tracing, Ethiopian coffee still tends to have distinct flavor profiles based on region. Our Guduba is a classic Guji—possessing sweet, balanced fruit notes that sing within the cup and a delicate touch of florals. Citrus notes unfold to reveal a honey-like body that can be best exemplified through pour over as a brewing method.
