For 50 years, George has helped shape the specialty coffee world by championing farmers, elevating single-origin coffees, roasting and brewing to precision, and proving that every cup tells a story. We are proud of his career spanning five decades, and we look forward to his continued work.

This year marks a very special milestone. My dad, George Howell, is celebrating 50 years in coffee.

I write this as his daughter, but also as someone who has had the privilege of working alongside him for more than 20 years. Watching his journey up close, I can say without hesitation that his impact on coffee, especially on the specialty coffee community, is profound. His contributions have been widely recognized, including lifetime honors from both the Specialty Coffee Association of America and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe for his role in advancing quality and the Cup of Excellence.

Throughout his career, George has led with curiosity, integrity, and an uncompromising pursuit of quality. He treated coffee like something worth slowing down for. Where it came from, who grew it, how it was roasted, and how quickly it should be enjoyed all mattered. Even today, he continues to bring forward new ideas and challenge assumptions in pursuit of better coffee. His passion is unmistakable and completely contagious, and anyone who spends time around him feels it immediately. It is energizing to be in his presence and inspiring to see how that enthusiasm continues to shape the people and work around him.

I also celebrate him as a dad. Growing up, I felt his excitement for coffee countries, flavors, people, and innovation long before I fully understood them. Very few people are able to live their passion so completely, and I, along with so many others, feel incredibly fortunate to have explored this journey alongside him.

George has built two remarkable companies, but just as importantly, he has created a culture of people who truly get it. They share his values, his curiosity, and his desire to keep shaping the future of coffee.

Dad, the coffee world would not be the same without you. Thank you for everything you have given to coffee, to this community, and to all of us who have learned from and worked beside you.
